Interview with My Little Girl

Every now and then, I ask my three year old some questions about God. I have no pre-thought-out line of questioning. I simply want to have a conversation with my daughter to find out what she is learning from us, our church, and the world around her about the God who made, saved, and lives within her.

Q: Anna, what do you know about God?

A: I know the stuff. I love him. I love Mom and Dada.

Q: Why do you love God?

A: Because He’s special.

Q: What makes him special?

A: Because he helps us, heals people.

Q: Who did God heal?

A: Me. Kayli (a friend) because she’s sick.

Q: What did God heal you from?

A: He healed us from everything.

Q: What do you know about Jesus?

A: He loves me, He takes care of me, and we go to the doctor sometimes.

Q: Jesus goes with you to the doctor?

A: Yeah.

Q: How does Jesus go to the doctor with you?

A: We jump in the car with our mom and dada if we’re sick. And we go to the doctors and we sit still or stand still. Their doctor gives them some medicine.

Q: So where is Jesus in all of that?

A: Because our family loves us.

Q: So you see Jesus in our family’s love?

A: Yeah.

Q: What do you know about heaven?

A: Can you tell me about heaven?

Q: Heaven is being with Jesus forever. And nothing hurts you, nothing scares you, it’s just great.

A: Jesus always ‘bes’ with us in heaven.

Q: Does Jesus love you?

A: Yeah.

Q: How do you know?

A: Because Jesus always takes care of us even if we don’t know if he’s here.

Q: How do you know that?

A: Because people always take care of us.

Q: What happened to Jesus?

A: He died on the cross for our sins.

Q: What does that mean?

A: He died on the cross for our sins. Because he loves us and takes care of us.

Q: Is it that simple.

A: Yeah.

Q: So when Jesus died on the cross for our sins, what does that mean for your life?

A: That means he always takes care of us.

Q: You know what? I think you are very smart! Did God make you so smart?

A: Yeah.

Q: Is there anything else you want to tell me about God?

A: No. I think I’m done.

What precious words about our loving Savior. She gets it. Maybe not fully yet, but that’s part of the beauty of this faith of ours. We know the love of Jesus and keep growing in it all our lives.
